JESSYE BOULTON
Founder, Designer & Maker

After graduating in 2018 with a degree in fashion knitwear from Winchester School of Art, Jessye was drawn back to West Cornwall where she grew up. She now lives in Penzance and works from her studio a few miles away.

In her own words: "I appreciate the slower pace of life here, and am continually inspired by the dramatic, rugged coastline and breadth of landscape that surrounds the town I live in.

The colours, patterns and textures evident in my work are often subtly reflective of the natural world observed around me, and a respect for the spaces and places we inhabit influence my practice as a designer/maker. This all helps determine the conscious choice of using only natural, sustainable fibres in my collections, which are breathable and biodegradable by nature. Any synthetic fibres I do (rarely) use, are sourced from industry surplus stock, and therefore would otherwise go to waste"

Carnwear came about organically in 2020 as Jessye continued to develop her practice as a designer/maker after her degree, and is a commitment to slow, artisanal practices, hand craft and sustainable design.

Jessye also works as a freelance knitwear designer, creating knitted costume pieces for film, TV and theatre.
